I got this incredible book for Christmas that has some beautiful geometric fabric folding patterns in it. Shadowfolds is it's name and it's just amazing. It has these gorgeous pictures throughout followed by the patterns and instructions on how to fold and stitch fabric to make them.

Being an absolute beginner to this I obviously started with one that was one of the most difficult in the book but as you can see above it turned out really well!

My journey below, dear reader, is where the blogger in me really comes out. The first one was done in such haste (because I just wanted to get shadowfolding already!) that I didn't take any photos throughout. Of course this meant it turned out well. Whereas the second attempt, as you will see, was not so very amazing, but I have lots of pictures of it!

Marking out the fabric
Following the instructions
Hmmmmmm sort of, but not quite.

So there you have it my first attempt at this wonderful new-to-me craft. I have great ambitions firstly to be able to follow the instructions correctly. And secondly to execute this perfectly on some soft leather to make a to-die-for clutch. Not sure how that ambition will turn out but a girl can dream right?

365 : 2012 : 2

Lots of things to take photos of this week. My favourite is my first attempt at Shadowfolds - more on that later!

In other news my sister borrowed my sewing machine last week and I probably won't get it back until later this week so it's hand sewing only for me!

365 : 2012 : 1

Many moons ago I attempted to be one of those people who has the stamina and attention span to create a 365 album. One photo a day. Sounds simple right? The first time I attempted it January 12th tripped me up (for reasons I no longer remember). Last year, I vowed, was going to be the year that I rectified this. I would happily snap my way through the days and make my way to the end of the year with an epic and awesome album. But no. Last year January 24th tripped me up. Bedridden with the flu or something.

So here I stand. At the start of 2012 with the mission of making this 365 album not just a possibility but a reality. I am not going to think of the fact that my efforts seem to be in multiples of 12 and that probably means I'll only make it to February 5th. Instead I am determined that third times a charm.

So what have I been up to this week? From the photos you can see a deer's head from a pub in Wellington we went to for NYE. Presents for my boyfriend's birthday. Lunch with a  curious bird. A slide night. The biggest pile of laundry that ever there was. A wonderfully worded sign selling "slipper special thongs" for $3. And finally a stroll through the art gallery of NSW to see the Picasso exhibition.

I realise that this is a sewing blog and some of you may not necessarily want to watch the progress of this particular project of mine so I shall mark the title of each weekly post clearly as I have here. Click, or don't click, as you please.
